EN TEAM
alling all career seekers! Don’t miss your chance to gain real-world industry experience with the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) Round 2. Registrations are open until 12th March, offering over one lakh internship opportunities in more than 730 districts across India. Following an overwhelming response of over six lakh applications in Round 1, this phase brings an even greater chance for young professionals to enhance their employability.
The scheme provides young individuals with an opportunity to gain practical experience, industry exposure, and professional networking in over 300 leading companies from sectors such as Oil & Energy, Banking, Automotive, Manufacturing, FMCG, and many more. These internships aim to enhance employability and skill development, preparing candidates for future career prospects.
Eligible applicants, aged 21-24 years and not currently enrolled in full-time education or employment, can apply for up to three internships based on their preferred sector, district, and state. Interns will receive Rs. 5,000 per month as financial assistance, along with a one-time grant of Rs. 6,000. Each internship includes at least six months of professional experience and relevant training to ensure meaningful skill-building.
To maximise outreach, over 70 Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) events are being conducted in colleges, universities, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and employment fairs (Rozgar Melas) across districts with the highest number of internship opportunities. Additionally, a nationwide digital campaign is in progress to ensure aspiring candidates can access relevant information about the scheme.
Announced in Budget 2024-25, the scheme aims to provide one crore internships in top 500 companies over five years. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme is distinct from other existing skill development, apprenticeship, internship, and student training programmes implemented across States and Union Territories in India. It operates autonomously and remains independent of all ongoing Central and State government initiatives.

How to Choose the Best Internship for Yourself?
Selecting the right internship is essential for gaining relevant experience and enhancing career prospects. The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) provides a structured approach to help candidates identify and apply for internships that best align with their skills, interests, and career goals. Here are some key factors to consider when choosing the most suitable internship:
Define Your Career Interests and Goals: Before selecting an internship, assess your career aspirations, strengths, and preferred work environment. Identify whether you are interested in sectors such as Banking, IT & Software Development, Automotive, Healthcare, FMCG, or Energy.
Use Filters to Refine Your Search: The PM Internship Portal allows candidates to filter opportunities based on various criteria, making it easier to find the most suitable internship:
Location Preference: Choose internships in your state, district, or within a preferred distance from your current residence.
Sector and Field: Select industries that align with your interests and qualifications.
Company Preference: Review the list of top companies offering internships, considering their reputation and work environment.
Prioritise Practical Learning and Skill Development: Check the internship description to ensure it offers hands-on experience and training in areas that match your career path. Look for key learning outcomes, required skills, and any additional benefits provided by the company.
Apply to Multiple Options for Better Chances: Candidates can apply for up to five internships per cycle. Choose diverse opportunities within your interest area to increase your chances of selection. However, focus on roles that genuinely align with your skills and career aspirations.
Evaluate Company Policies and Benefits: Review company policies on attendance, stipend distribution, training costs, and additional benefits such as insurance or mentorship programmes. If multiple internships seem suitable, prioritise those offering the best professional growth opportunities.
Track Your Application Status: After applying, regularly track your application status on the PM Internship Portal. If not selected, you can reapply in future cycles and explore new opportunities.
Accept or Decline Offers Wisely: You may receive up to two internship offers. Consider all aspects, including work environment, financial benefits, and career prospects before accepting or declining an offer.
